Waiting for Spring.....
"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." Lao Tzu
What a wonderful quote for those of us who are awaiting the arrival of spring. There are definitely signs, though they are weeks behind the last few seasons. Out at the farm last weekend, I noticed scapes (stems) on a few of the early blooming daylilies, so there will be a few flowers by mid June.
"H. ssp Korean #2" is an early bloomer here. It was collected in Korea by Dr Darrell Apps, a well known daylily breeder. This native species has a 26 inch scape, with a 4 inch bloom.
"Apricot" is the first hybridized daylily (1893), and also an early bloomer. Scape height is 34 inches, with a bloom size of 4.75
Both of these varieties would be excellent choices for your garden if you want to extend your bloom season.
Happy Gardening!
