Daylily Open House

The Daylily Open House will be held August 3rd - 5th, from 8:00 - 5:00 each day.   Wander through the rows of daylilies that are now in bloom, and choose a few for your garden if you'd like.  Since bloom season has been earlier than usual this year, the farm will also be open Saturday, July 28th from 12:00 - 5:00 and Sunday, July 29th, from 10:00 - 4:00.   Directions to the farm are on the Hours/Location page.

If you're not able to make it out to visit, but would like to purchase some plants for this season (you can plant up to September 1st), mail order or delivery to the Duluth area is also available. There will be a photo album of most plants available for sale on the website.

Bloom Season Begins!

Daylilies are beginning to bloom at the farm!  It's very exciting.  I'm guessing that about 15% of the plants are blooming, with more to come in the next few weeks.   Here are just a few.....

Wynway- deep cream with red edges: a large, striking flower

Kindly Light - light yellow-green spider variety; long blooming

Starlight Serenede - cream-cream green, ruffled & diamond dusted.
                                          Very pretty flower!

More photos to come later this week.  Visitors are welcome on Sundays, from 10:00 - 4:00,  and during the Open House, August 3-5, from 8:00- 5:00 each day.

Daylilies are "scaping"!

My favorite phrase this time of year is "daylilies are scaping!".   No, they are not escaping, but are sending up scapes (stems), which have flower buds on them, and soon they will bloom.   Many plants seem to be much earlier than usual this year, so bloom time should begin in the next few weeks.

There will be a "Daylily Open House" from August 3rd - 5th, from 8:00 - 5:00 each day.  This will be a great opportunity to see many of the plants in bloom.   Since the season has started a bit eariler than usual, the few weeks prior will also be great times to visit.   The farm is open Sundays, from 10:00 - 4:00, and also by appointment.  Hope to see you there!

Early Bloomers!

These are 2 of the early blooming daylilies  - the yellow one is H.(hemerocallis) ssp. Korean #2, a native/species daylily which was collected in Korea.   The orange one is "Apricot", the first hybridized daylily (1893).  Both are available for purchase.   We're open Sundays, from 10:00-4:00, and by appointment.

There are a few plants with scapes (stems) on them already, and before long it will be peak bloom season.   We look forward to visitors and hope to share the beauty of daylilies with you!

Happy Spring!

Despite the fact that there is a thunderstorm rolling through my city, the potential for snow and the tornadoes ravaging through the Midwest this weekend, there are signs of spring everywhere.  I visited Minnespolis yesterday and the lilacs, trees and bulbs all seem to be about 3-4 weeks ahead of schedule.

There are signs of spring in the daylily field as well.  Leaves are beginning to show themselves, and the deer have been enjoying a few for lunch! (Deer management in another post...)

The farm will officially open on Sunday, May 27th, but it's not too soon to plan & pre-order.

From now through May 15th, there will be a 10% discount on all orders over $25.   Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Happy Spring!  dj
